Lockimara Releases Music Video for New Song “December”
Lockimara, known as Nicholas Gay, usually delves into emotions through veiled stories and fiction in his music. However, “December,” the main single from his upcoming album Only Sun, Only Moon, is a departure from this norm. Gay, in a deeply emotional state during a painful goodbye in November, decided to be brutally honest in his songwriting for this particular track. Featuring a captivating mix of buzzing bass, lively drums, a piano-driven chorus, and an infectious melody, “December” authentically portrays raw heartbreak. Gay took personal charge and directed the music video for this touching and personal song.
Scheduled for a release date of July 24, Only Sun, Only Moon will mark Lockimara’s return after a period of significant life changes. Gay transitioned from his career in social work in Vancouver to relocating to Toronto to revitalize Lockimara’s live performances. Eventually, he moved to New York to undertake a master’s program in music production while simultaneously navigating the end of a long-term relationship. Gay’s sophomore album is a self-contained project where he wrote, produced, and played most of the instruments, resulting in a unique blend of acoustic elements, experimental textures, and dance-infused electronic sounds that defy traditional genre categorization.
While Gay typically conceals his personal experiences through literary devices, “December” emerged as a transparent portrayal of his genuine emotions. Reflecting on his creative process, Gay explained his decision to express his emotions candidly through song during a challenging moment in his life. Drawing inspiration from musical influences ranging from Elliott Smith and the Postal Service to My Bloody Valentine, his music navigates the dichotomies of sun and moon, analog and digital, and intimacy and grandeur. The upcoming album comprises nine tracks that promise a contemplative exploration of these themes.
Only Sun, Only Moon is now available for pre-order, allowing listeners to anticipate the sonic journey that Lockimara has crafted meticulously. This album solidifies Gay’s transition from a storyteller to a musician who presents his unfiltered emotions through his music. Through this autobiographical and musically diverse collection, Lockimara invites audiences to embrace vulnerability and authenticity in their expressions.
Nicholas Gay’s artistic transformation culminates in Only Sun, Only Moon, a testament to his evolving sound and commitment to portraying raw emotions in his music. Scheduled for release on July 24, this album promises an introspective exploration of identity, love, and the ever-entwined themes of darkness and light.
