What brought you to Fuji Rock? – Attendee interviews at Fuji Rock Festival’25
Fuji Rock Festival, Asia’s largest outdoor music festival, drew in a crowd of 122,000 attendees in 2025, with 20% of them coming from overseas. The event showcased over 200 artists, including headliners like Fred Again.., Vulfpeck, and Vampire Weekend. To gain insight into what draws people to this renowned festival, we interviewed 15 groups of overseas music fans.
Umair Khalil, a 31-year-old software engineer from the USA, attended Fuji Rock for the first time with his wife, who had always dreamed of experiencing the festival. He expressed his admiration for the event, highlighting the discovery of new artists like Sunset Roller Coaster and Hiroko Yamamura. Umair advised future attendees to come prepared, emphasizing the importance of researching and packing essentials like bug spray.
Ray, a 34-year-old from Canada working as a forklift operator, actor, and comedian, also attended Fuji Rock for the first time. His initial attraction was to see Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, whom he found amazing. Ray underscored the significance of staying hydrated, using sun protection, and finding shade. He recommended purchasing merchandise early and stressed the importance of comfortable footwear due to the extensive walking at the festival.
A group of friends from India, including Semir, JJ, and Stuart, visited Fuji Rock for either their first or second time to experience the festival and explore Japan. They shared their excitement for various artists like Wolfpack, Ginger Root, Balming Tiger, and Tatsuro Yamashita. Their favorite stage was the Fields of Heaven, and they advised others to stay hydrated, wear comfortable shoes, and take in the festival’s atmosphere.
Visitors from South Korea, Keumsong and Yousun, attended Fuji Rock for the first time and were impressed by its size and diversity. Keumsong highlighted the festival’s international appeal and nature-centric environment, contrasting it with Korea’s largest festival, Pentaport Rock Festival. They emphasized purchasing goods at the festival rather than in advance, urging others to come prepared with money and an open mind.
From China, Layla, Hana, and Eilen attended Fuji Rock for either the first or second time. They were particularly enthralled by Vaundy and Fred Again.., praising the vibrant atmosphere that combined nature and music. Layla expressed her desire to bring her child to the festival, enjoying the family-friendly aspects and diverse entertainment options. The group recommended finding accommodation close to the venue for convenience.
Looking ahead to Fuji Rock Festival ’26, set for July 24-26, attendees can anticipate performances from The xx, Khruangbin, and Massive Attack, alongside Japanese acts like Fujii Kaze and ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.
