125th Anniversary Celebrated with Opening of Recording Studio and Members’ Balcony
Koko, the celebrated London venue, is commemorating its 125th anniversary by introducing two new spaces. Originally known as the Camden Theatre, Koko has a rich history spanning artists such as The Goon Show, The Rolling Stones, and Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Following a major refurbishment, the venue is now unveiling a recording studio on the third floor and a members’ balcony overlooking the main theater.
The House of Koko, a private members’ club within the venue, encompasses five floors featuring various amenities like restaurants, vinyl rooms, and a hidden jazz club. According to Olly Bengough, Koko’s creative director, the new recording studio was designed to cater to artists and creatives using the venue. Partnering with leading acousticians Munro Acoustics, the studio features top-of-the-line equipment such as an SSL System-T mixing desk and Bowers & Wilkins monitor speakers, known for their quality. The studio’s design combines modern equipment with a retro aesthetic inspired by 1960s and 1970s rock’n’roll, creating a unique and artist-friendly environment.
Notably, the studio is adjacent to the Penthouse bar, decorated with artwork by prominent artists like Sara Berman and Jamie Morgan. The Penthouse’s California-inspired design provides a creative and relaxed atmosphere for artists to unwind and collaborate. Artists have the flexibility to book the studio for extended hours, allowing for late-night inspiration and productive sessions. The seamless transition between the studio and the bar encourages a continuous flow of creativity and collaboration throughout the space.
The launch of the recording studio and members’ balcony reflects Koko’s commitment to fostering artistic growth and innovation. By providing state-of-the-art facilities and a supportive environment, Koko aims to empower artists to realize their creative visions. The venue’s rich history and ongoing dedication to the arts make it a cultural hub that continues to inspire and captivate audiences. With these new additions, Koko is set to embark on a new chapter of creativity and artistic exploration, building on its legacy as a renowned London institution.
