Steve Cropper left a lasting legacy in the music industry, passing away in December. Despite his departure, fans can look forward to new music from the late guitarist of Booker T. and the M.G.’s, set to release this summer. The album, “Watching the Tide,” was a project Cropper and his band The Midnight Hour were actively collaborating on before his passing. It is scheduled for a posthumous release on August 28, much to the anticipation of music lovers.

The upcoming album will not only showcase Cropper’s talent but also feature guest appearances by iconic musicians such as Eric Clapton, Brian May of Queen, Billy F. Gibbons from ZZ Top, and Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones. The first single from the album, “Ticket First,” which includes a feature by Eric Clapton, is now available on digital platforms for eager listeners.

Jon Tiven, a close friend of Cropper and a songwriter/producer, shared insights into the late artist’s passion for creating music. Tiven revealed that making music brought immense joy to Steve Cropper, and it was evidenced by his determination to continue making music even after releasing his album “Friendlytown” in 2024. Cropper’s dedication to his craft was unwavering, as he expressed his desire to create another record even after the success of his previous project.

Prior to his passing, Cropper had the opportunity to listen to 10 out of the 11 tracks on “Watching the Tide.” Tiven mentioned how he finished mixing the tracks just before Cropper’s death and had the chance to share the music with him. Cropper was enamored by the tracks and even told Tiven that it was the best record he had ever made. His enthusiasm was evident as he eagerly played the music for all his visitors, expressing pride in his latest work.

The album title, “Watching the Tide,” pays homage to the classic song “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding, a track that Cropper co-wrote. For fans eagerly awaiting the album’s release, they can preorder “Watching the Tide” now to ensure they are among the first to experience the musical genius of Cropper and his collaborators encompassing various genres.
