Midlands Fringe Festival will make a comeback to the city
The Midlands Fringe Festival is gearing up to make its return to Wolverhampton, promising a plethora of shows that will captivate audiences and inject a sense of excitement into the city. Organized by Poets, Prattlers, and Pandemonialists, a group of talented Black Country poets, writers, and performers, this festival aims to bring a touch of the magic typically associated with the famous Edinburgh Festival to the heart of the Midlands.
Having successfully debuted last year, the Midlands Fringe Festival is back with even grander plans thanks to securing new funding. Scheduled for July, the festival will feature an impressive lineup of 30 diverse shows spread across various venues in the city center over two weekends. Additionally, three headline events will take place at Wolverhampton’s prestigious Arena Theatre, ensuring a wide array of entertainment for attendees to choose from.
The festival, running from July 17 to July 26, has doubled in size this year compared to its inaugural edition in 2025. Poets, Prattlers, and Pandemonialists, spearheaded by prominent figures like Emma Purshouse, Dave Pitt, and Steve Pottinger, are committed to creating an unforgettable experience for all festival-goers. Purshouse expressed her enthusiasm for the event, citing the exceptional acts and positive feedback received last year as catalysts for making this year’s festival even more exceptional.
One of the highlights from the previous festival was Alex Sherry’s performance of The Tanner, leaving audiences in awe and setting a high bar for this year’s lineup. The organizers are determined to raise that bar even higher by curating a selection of top-tier fringe theatre and comedy acts that will undoubtedly delight and inspire the Wolverhampton community.
Funded last year with nearly £9,000 from Arts Council England, the Midlands Fringe Festival has once again received funding from the National Lottery, ensuring its continued success and growth. This year promises to be even more spectacular, with the festival’s expansion and the commitment of its talented organizers and performers guaranteeing an unparalleled entertainment experience for all who attend.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming festival, residents and visitors alike are eagerly looking forward to immersing themselves in an eclectic mix of performances that will showcase the very best of fringe theatre and comedy. The Midlands Fringe Festival is poised to once again enchant and captivate audiences, cementing its status as a must-see event in Wolverhampton’s cultural calendar.
