White House announces Trump will undergo additional medical checkup in late May
President Donald Trump is scheduled for his fourth medical and dental check-up since taking office, the White House announced Monday. The appointment, set for May 26 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, is described as an annual physical and standard preventive care for the 80-year-old president. Trump has faced significant scrutiny regarding his health, leading to increased public interest in his well-being.
After undergoing imaging on his heart and abdomen last year, Trump expressed regret over the public speculation that ensued regarding his health. Despite his age and frequent criticism of his predecessors for health issues, Trump recently mentioned feeling as good as he did 50 years ago. He attributed this to unknown reasons other than his diet, humorously stating that he exercises for a minute at most per day.
Presidents have the autonomy to determine the extent of health information they disclose to the public. Following his 2025 physical exam, Trump’s doctor, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, reported that the president was physically fit to lead the country. Trump had shed 20 pounds since his 2020 medical checkup, where he teetered on the brink of obesity. Later examinations revealed his diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition among older adults leading to blood pooling in veins.
Trump’s light-hearted attitude towards his health was evident in his recent quips about his exercise routine and general well-being. He revealed that he received a yearly flu shot and a COVID-19 booster vaccine during a semiannual physical examination in October. Additionally, advanced imaging on his heart and abdomen was conducted as a preventive measure. In light of these tests, Trump’s upcoming dental evaluation is expected to further address any health concerns.
Amid his busy schedule, Trump has also made time for regular dental visits near his Florida estate, where he often spends weekends. He is anticipated to undergo the comprehensive examination 10 days post his return from a summit meeting in Beijing with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Despite frequent scrutiny and speculation about his health, Trump appears confident in his well-being and continues to engage in preventive care measures to ensure his fitness to serve as commander in chief.
