Lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon experiences ‘minor concussion’ when phone is thrown at him by concertgoer

Bring Me The Horizon lead singer Oli Sykes recently experienced a mishap during a performance at the Enterprise Centre in St. Louis. A concert-goer threw a phone at Sykes, hitting him in the head and causing a mild concussion. The incident occurred while the band was performing their song “Happy Song,” as captured in fan videos where Sykes can be heard reacting, asking who threw the phone at him.

Despite the injury, Sykes managed to finish the show, although the band opted to skip the song “YOUtopia” from their setlist. Additionally, Sykes refrained from walking through the crowd during the song “Drown” as he typically does. After the show, Sykes took to social media to inform fans of his condition, stating that he had suffered a mild concussion but that the swelling had already decreased significantly.

In a message posted on his Instagram Stories, Sykes explained the challenges he faced on stage following the incident, noting that singing put pressure on the wound and made things disorienting. He apologized for any perceived lack of enthusiasm during the performance and expressed gratitude for fans’ concerns and well-wishes. Sykes reassured everyone that he was looking forward to the next gig and expected to be fully recovered.

Currently on tour in North America, Bring Me The Horizon will soon head to Europe for festival performances at events such as Sweden Rock Festival, Rock For People, Nova Rock, and Hellfest, among others. Earlier this year, the band presented a unique cinematic experience with their concert film, “L.I.V.E. in São Paulo,” showcasing their São Paulo performance in front of a crowd of 50,000 fans.

In 2024, Bring Me The Horizon toured Australia alongside special guests Sleep Token, Make Them Suffer, and daine. Shortly after the tour, the band surprised fans with the release of their latest album, “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn.” Originally announced in 2023, the album’s release was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The album features six singles, including “Die4u,” “Strangers,” “Lost,” “Amen” featuring Daryl Palumbo and Lil Uzi Vert, “Darkside,” and “Kool-Aid.” Keyboardist Jordan Fish departed from the band in December 2023 amidst the album’s production.
