Canadian band Bywater Call is scheduled to perform at the Vírgen Blanca square on Friday, June 19, and German band The Backyard Casanovas on Saturday, June 20, as part of the Azkena Rock Festival’s lineup of free concerts. Bywater Call is set to release their fourth studio album this summer and has been dropping hints with various teasers. They will kick off their European tour in May, running through June, and fans can catch them on June 19 at the Azkena Rock Festival’s Virgen Blanca stage. Lead singer Meghan Parnell captivates audiences with her impressive vocals, supported by the band’s robust sound featuring honky-tonk keyboards and subtly crafted percussion and winds.

Bywater Call has often been likened to British band Vinegar Joe, led by Robert Palmer, where diverse musical styles and influences blend seamlessly. Their songs, ranging from lively and energetic tunes to more somber tracks, have a dramatic flair that can both energize and soothe listeners.

Hailing from Rhineland, The Backyard Casanovas quartet has been active since 2018, comprising established figures in the young rhythm and blues scene. The band, also known as “Cocks,” serves as the backing band for acclaimed singer and pianist Cat Lee King in their ventures. Three years ago, they released “Backyard Stomp,” a stellar blend of classics and original compositions that delivers an authentic and raw sound drawing from R&B and aged rock and roll influences.

Catch Bywater Call and The Backyard Casanovas live at the Vírgen Blanca square during the Azkena Rock Festival in June for a display of impressive musical talents and soulful performances.
