DYGL from Japan makes it onto The List with their alternative rock music
Japanese alternative rock band DYGL, known for their energetic and captivating music, has been making waves in the music scene. With features in NME, Japan Times, The Line of Best Fit, and Headstuff, the four-piece band has been gaining recognition both in Japan and internationally. Formed in 2012 while studying at Meiji Gakuin University, DYGL consists of Nobuki Akiyama on vocals and guitar, Kohei Kamoto on guitar, Yotaro Kachi on bass, and Yosuke Shimonaka on guitar. Over the years, the band has released five studio albums, with their music evolving and maturing with each release. Collaborating with industry heavyweights such as Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes and Gus Oberg has helped shape their distinctive sound.
Drawing inspiration from a variety of musical influences ranging from classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to new wave pioneers like Talking Heads and The Kinks, DYGL has crafted a unique sound that blends elements of past and present. Their latest album, “Who’s in the House?”, showcases their evolution as a band, with a raw and visceral energy that sets them apart from their peers. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Stephanie “Slozzaa” Loza, the album represents a new chapter in their musical journey.
