Band announces upcoming release of new album “Rumspringa” next week
The emerging musical duo known as ear may be relatively new on the scene, but they have quickly garnered attention and intrigue. Comprised of Jonah Paz and Yaelle Avtan, the duo first met at Bard College and recorded their debut track “Nerves” in 2024 using just an iPhone in the college library. Their music is characterized by a soft, mesmerizing quality that captivates listeners. Stereogum contributor Eli Enis has followed their progress closely, describing their sound as “laptop twee” and “cloud-rock.” Their music has a cult-like appeal on the internet, and the question lingers whether they can transcend this underground status and reach a wider audience.ear released a few singles before quietly self-releasing an album titled The Most Dear and The Future in September. While it consists of only eight songs and runs for 16 minutes, it serves as their closest approximation to an album to date. Their track “Ne Plus Ultra” emerged as a standout single recently. Now, ear has exciting news to share – they will be releasing a new album next week, marking their first official release with a record label. The upcoming album is titled Rumspringa, drawing inspiration from the Amish cultural tradition where young individuals are allowed to experience activities forbidden by their community. This new album will be released through A24 Music, a label associated with indie film distributor A24. A24 Music has primarily focused on releasing original soundtrack music, but they have also ventured into signing artists like Mark William Lewis from former band bar italia, whose self-titled album dropped last year. The enigmatic, internet-driven music of ear aligns perfectly with A24 Music’s aesthetic and brand identity. While details about the tracklist and new singles from Rumspringa are currently scarce, the album is scheduled for release on May 29th through A24 Music. The anticipation surrounding ear’s latest project continues to build as fans eagerly await the unveiling of their next musical chapter.
