In celebration of their 30th anniversary since the release of their debut single, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, collectively known as Arab Strap, have been making waves in the music scene. Having returned from a 16-year hiatus in 2021, the Scottish duo has already released two albums, “As Days Get Dark” and the intriguingly titled “I’m totally fine with it ? don’t give a f**k anymore.” Now, they are gearing up to drop their latest creation, “Half-Told Tales,” set to hit the airwaves in September, accompanied by the lead single “You You You.”

“You You You” delves into dark themes while being a dancey anthem at its core, exploring the idea that everyone carries their own burdens. In the lyrics, Moffat reflects on personal struggles, singing, “I’ve got a hole in my shoe that lets in rain/ And another new lump in another vein/ I’ve got pills for breakfast every day/ To keep my pains and fears at bay.” Moffat explains that the song is a reflection of the shared worries and struggles millions face daily, from financial burdens to mental and physical health concerns, the overwhelming news cycle filled with violence and tyranny, and feeling complicit in societal issues like the military industrial complex and the misinformation prevalent in the media. He emphasizes the lack of human decency in the world, leading to a prevailing sense of despondency as a default state, making it essential to summon hope and solidarity in the face of adversity.

The tracklist for “Half-Told Tales” includes a variety of intriguing titles, such as “I Get Noise,” “Be A Man,” “Glamour Magick,” and “Fragments,” promising a diverse and engaging listening experience for fans of Arab Strap. Scheduled for release on September 4th via Rock Action, the album is sure to captivate audiences with its introspective lyrics and unique musical style.
