Vallejo to Host Punk Rock Festival at Odd Fellows Hall

The Pestevol Punk Festival is set to take place at the Odd Fellows Hall in downtown Vallejo this Saturday evening, showcasing iconic northern California punk bands such as The Freak Accident, Lost Puppy Forever, XOX, and Vallejo’s very own Ajar. Notable interdisciplinary artist and river mermaid, Venus Unisex, along with psychedelic electric guitarist Black Sunrise and accordion player Noreiarain, and DJ Mister Colin are also part of the lineup. The event is open to all age groups with a modest $10 entry fee.

Local Filipino-American artist Niki Toney’s artwork will be featured at the Pista Pilsner Unveiling on Wednesday at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Coal Shed Brewery. Toney designed a custom label for the Pista Pilsner to commemorate Vallejo’s 40th year of the Pista Sa Nayon festival, to be held in front of the Coal Sheds in June.

Bay Area Stage Theatre will be hosting auditions for the Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors starting this Saturday through Monday. Aspiring performers are encouraged to showcase 32 bars of their best song while bringing along a dark sense of humor. Rehearsals are set to commence in August, with weekend shows running through October.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are numerous opportunities for recreation this week. A new Vallejo hiking club will lead a family-friendly inaugural 90-minute hike along the San Pablo Bay Hiking Trail on Mare Island this Saturday morning. Following that, the monthly Lynch Canyon Nature Hike will offer a challenging climb to Prairie Ridge with panoramic views of the northern San Francisco Bay. On Sunday, V-Town Bikes will host a relaxed group bike ride from downtown Vallejo to Crockett via the Carquinez Bridge, with a stop at Lucia’s Craft Sandwich for a meal.

The Vallejo Run Club convenes every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning at the Ferry Terminal on Mare Island Way for running enthusiasts. For those looking for a less intense activity, Noble Cinema Studios will be hosting a Paint, Sip, and Smoke Night on Thursday, featuring art supplies, a joint, and a drink for an $80 ticket.

In observance of Memorial Day, two ceremonies will be held in Vallejo. The first will commence at 9 a.m at the Mare Island Cemetery, with National Cemetery Administration Director for the Mare Island Naval Cemetery Ashaley Jackson as the keynote speaker. The second ceremony will take place at 11 a.m by the Vallejo Warriors’ Memorial in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, with state Deputy Secretary for Women Veterans Affairs Mayumi Kimura delivering the keynote address.

In Benicia, the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana alongside Vivaldi’s Gloria and excerpts from The Four Seasons on Sunday afternoon. This performance will feature special guests such as the Areté Singers, Golden Gate Boys Choir, San Francisco Boys Chorus, and Voena Children’s Choir.
