Canada’s Triumph continues to battle for justice on their 50th-anniversary reunion tour.
Triumph, the iconic Canadian rock band, is celebrating its 50th-anniversary reunion tour, marking a significant milestone in its musical journey. Despite their last tour being 33 years ago, the band, led by founding members guitarist Rik Emmett and drummer Gil Moore, is back on the road to the delight of fans on both sides of the border. Although bassist and keyboardist Mike Levine is currently sidelined due to health issues, the remaining members are delivering unforgettable performances of their defining hits like “Hold On,” “Fight the Good Fight,” “Magic Power,” and “Lay It On the Line.”
With more than 15 million albums sold worldwide, Triumph has garnered numerous accolades, including inductions into the Canadian Music and Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. Their star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto serves as a testament to their enduring impact on the music industry. Triumph’s origin story dates back to 1975 when Moore and Levine embarked on a musical venture that would eventually lead to the formation of the band. Emmett, recruited from another Toronto group, joined forces with them, setting the stage for Triumph’s ascension to rock stardom. Their strategic promotion, radio presence, and extensive touring efforts solidified their position as a mainstay on Album Rock radio, with their platinum-selling album “Allied Forces” reaching the pinnacle of success in 1981.
Following Emmett’s departure in 1988 to pursue a solo career, Triumph soldiered on with Phil X (nee Xenidis) temporarily stepping in until the band concluded its run in 1993. The original trio reunited sporadically over the years for special performances and accolades, keeping the spirit of Triumph alive. A documentary titled “Rock & Roll Machine” in 2021 offered a glimpse into the band’s legacy, leading up to their decision to embark on the Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded tour.
The current lineup, featuring Todd Kerns and Brent Fitz alongside Emmett and Moore, is a source of renewed inspiration for the band.
