Ex-Control Top Members Create Index, Release First Single “Cellophane”
Remember the powerhouse band, Control Top? Hailing from Philadelphia’s vibrant DIY punk scene in 2018, they quickly became known for their incredible music like “Type A” and “Chain Reaction.” Their album, Covert Contracts, dropped in 2019, and they were still rocking out in 2024, but unfortunately, they disbanded somewhere along the way. However, the good news is that two out of the three former Control Top members have teamed up to create a new band called Index, and their debut single is finally here.
Index is a duo with members Alan Creedon and Alex Lichtenauer, who are based on opposite coasts in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Lichtenauer, who also runs the revered label Get Better Records, is part of something special with Index. Their latest track, “Cellophane,” is released today on the Get Better Records label and was recorded at Show Me The Body’s Corpus studio, with noted heavy music producer Arthur Rizk at the helm. This new track is a fierce, commanding blend of synth-punk that leans closer to hardcore than Control Top’s sound.
The duo shares their insights on the track, stating that “Cellophane” delves into themes of self-deception and the everyday rituals we engage in to convince ourselves that we have it all together. Musically, Index wanted to break away from traditional riff-based compositions, opting instead for a fluid and unpredictable style. Functioning as a unified entity, they navigate through fluctuating time signatures rather than adhering rigidly to them. Their aim was to infuse electronic body music with a hardcore edge, resulting in a precise yet impactful sound that commands attention in any room.
For those eager to experience Index’s electrifying energy live, the band has announced a few upcoming tour dates. Catch them on June 25th at Non Plus Ultra in Los Angeles, on July 15th at TV Eye in New York, and on July 16th at Pearl Street in Washington, DC. Join them for an unforgettable performance alongside Hunx And His Punx and Generacion Suicida.
In conclusion, Index emerges as a force to be reckoned with, blending elements of punk, hardcore, and electronic music to create a sound that is dynamic, intense, and impossible to ignore. Stay tuned for more electrifying tracks and unforgettable live shows from Index.
