Not often do we see exciting events in the realm of high-strung DIY indie rock, but lo and behold, Toronto’s own Kiwi Jr. have stepped up to the plate! Having dropped their latest album, Chopper, in 2022, the band treated fans to the single “Hard Drive, Ontario” last year. Today, Kiwi Jr. unveils plans for their upcoming album, Blowin’ Up, set for a summer release, complete with a lead track that is bound to get stuck in your head.

Venturing to Detroit, Kiwi Jr. teamed up with producer Graham Walsh of Holy F**k fame to craft the sounds of Blowin’ Up. This exciting album features a host of collaborations with fellow Detroit rockers such as Stef Chura, Fred Thomas, Joe Casey, and Greg Ahee of Protomartyr, alongside familiar faces like Kerri Maclellan from Alvvays and Margaux Bouchaudon from En Attendant Ana. Also lending his expertise to the mix is Fred Thomas himself. Noteworthy tracks from the upcoming album include the previously released “Hard Drive, Ontario” and the adrenaline-pumping anthem “Blowin’ Up.”

For those with a soft spot for bands like The Feelies, The Modern Lovers, or Parquet Courts, Kiwi Jr.’s latest offering is sure to hit all the right notes. If you find yourself nodding in agreement to these band names, then “Blowin’ Up” is bound to be a tune you’ll enjoy. With its infectious energy and undeniable charm, this track is a delightful addition to their discography.
