Paul Singh Sworn In as 167th Mayor of Wolverhampton
The newest mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Paul Singh, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to meet the diverse and wonderful people of the city after being officially appointed during the Annual Council Meeting where he took over from outgoing mayor Craig Collingswood. Singh, alongside his wife, Ranjit Dhillon, who will serve as mayoress, described the appointment as “a huge honour.” He revealed that his chosen motto for his term in office would be “Through sports we grow, because I’ve grown through sport.”
The newly appointed mayor has already made plans to support four charities during his time in office. Among these organizations are the Wolverhampton Judo Club, Wolverhampton Boxing Club, Friends of Di’s Kitchen, and Inspire You. The Judo Club, founded in 1966, is known to be one of the top judo clubs in the UK, while the Boxing Club, established in 1936, is one of the oldest in the country. Friends of Di’s Kitchen is a charity that provides food for those in need across Wolverhampton, delivering meals to homes on a weekly basis. Inspire You, the fourth charity selected by Singh, focuses on developing and supporting young people.
In addition to his charity work, Mayor Singh expressed his eagerness to engage with the various community groups in Wolverhampton that contribute positively to the city. He urged residents to extend invitations to events, promising to attend and offer his support whenever possible. Singh, a dedicated Wolves fan, recounted his first-ever match watching the team’s resounding 7-1 victory over Chelsea in 1975. He emphasized his commitment to raising essential funds for the selected charities throughout his mayoral term.
Alongside Councillor Paul Singh, Wendy Thompson was appointed as the deputy mayor for the 2026/27 period, with Caraline Holding serving as her consort. The City of Wolverhampton Council highlighted the significant contributions made by the city’s boxing and judo clubs, as well as the charitable efforts of Friends of Di’s Kitchen and Inspire You. Singh’s dedication to supporting these organizations underscores his commitment to making a positive impact on the community during his tenure as mayor.
