Several cities in Bulgaria interested in hosting Eurovision 2027
Following Bulgaria’s victory at Eurovision 2026, four major cities in the country have already shown interest in hosting Eurovision 2027.
Sofia, the capital, along with Varna, the birthplace of DARA, Burgas, a coastal town, and Plovdiv, the only European Capital of Culture city in Bulgaria, have all announced their intentions to bid for hosting the contest in 2027.
The mayor of Sofia, Vassil Terziev, confidently declared that the capital was the best-suited city to host the competition. Varna’s mayor, Blagomir Kotsev, not only expressed interest in hosting but also proposed granting DARA the title of “Honorary Citizen of Varna” as a recognition of her exceptional talent and contribution to the music industry.
Mayor Kotsev emphasized DARA’s significant role in promoting Varna and Bulgaria on a large European platform. Considering her roots in Varna, DARA is recognized as one of Bulgaria’s most influential contemporary artists, serving as a beacon for the city’s vibrant creative community.
Varna possesses strong arguments in its favor for hosting Eurovision, including its rich cultural heritage, tourist appeal, established international presence, and youthful vibrancy. Burgas, another enthusiastic contender, suggested the “Arena Burgas” as a potential venue for the contest, with a capacity of over 15,000 attendees.
Meanwhile, Plovdiv’s mayor, Kostadin Dimitrov, expressed the city’s interest in hosting the event. Known for the Hills of Rock festival, an esteemed gathering for rock and metal enthusiasts in the Balkans, Plovdiv’s venue might present limitations due to its current capacity below the EBU’s minimum requirement of 10,000 seats.
To meet the prerequisites for hosting Eurovision, cities must fulfill specific criteria, including providing suitable facilities, technical infrastructure, a “green room,” and security measures. Additionally, the production must be broadcast in English and French while maintaining political neutrality and fair treatment of participants.
Bulgaria’s determination to succeed in the Eurovision Song Contest dates back to its debut in 2005 with Kaffe’s song “Lorraine.” After their triumphant return in 2016, Bulgaria secured its first victory in 2026, represented by DARA and the hit song “Bangaranga,” accumulating a total of 516 points.
The selection of the host city for Eurovision 2027 remains a topic of interest for fans worldwide. Which city do you envision as the ideal host for the next Eurovision extravaganza? Share your thoughts and stay tuned for updates on Eurovision 2027 across various social media platforms.
