Bokassa, the Norwegian stoner punk trio, has made a triumphant return with their latest single, “Doesn’t Matter If You Love It Here.” This melodic stoner rock anthem has a metallic edge and a sun-drenched desert vibe that is perfect for those long road trips, lazy summer days, and energetic late nights. The track showcases a more melodic vocal style from Bokassa while still delivering the air-guitar-worthy riffs and catchy hooks that are synonymous with their sound.

Delving into darker themes, the band explores the idea of the earth’s mistreatment by civilization over time in their lyrics. They highlight how this neglect may lead to the earth’s demise, drawing a parallel to a failing relationship that cannot be salvaged, much like the deteriorating bond between humanity and the planet’s natural resources.

The single, released through their independent label, Kings of Stonerpunk Records, marks a return to Bokassa’s DIY ethos, reminiscent of the label that launched their career with their debut album, “Divide & Conquer,” in 2017. Frontman Jørn Kaarstad emphasizes the band’s self-sufficient approach, reflecting on their journey from booking their own shows to now releasing music independently, even while opening for Metallica in their early years. The band is thrilled to embrace this hands-on mentality once again with their latest single.

Produced, engineered, and mixed by two-time Grammy winner Adrian Bushby and mastered by George Perks, the track was recorded at Otterhead Studios in England in March 2026. Alongside the single, Bokassa has unveiled a new music video that immerses viewers in grindhouse madness, depicting auditions for a bass player that take a violent turn. The gritty visuals and dark humor pay homage to cult classics like Bad Taste and draw inspiration from 70s and 80s slasher films.

To coincide with the release, Bokassa will be embarking on a summer tour, joining Clutch for shows in Spain and France, as well as teaming up with Lagwagon for performances in Germany, in addition to select festival appearances in Norway.

The band’s tour dates include stops in various European cities, promising an electrifying live experience for fans. This tour comes at an exciting time for Bokassa, as they continue to captivate audiences with their unique blend of stoner punk energy and infectious melodies. Stay tuned for more updates from Bokassa and catch them live at a venue near you.
