Radkey, a punk trio from Missouri, reveal new self-recorded album “Bedroom Sand” and release single “Ready To Burn”
Isaiah, Solomon, and Dee Radke grew up in a small pink house in St. Joseph, Missouri, where they were homeschooled on their father’s collection of punk and metal music. This early exposure to music ultimately led to the formation of the band Radkey in 2010. Despite facing several challenges such as label turmoil, including the disappearance of a contract after their label was acquired, a publishing deal with a crypto entrepreneur who vanished, and tours organized by an agency that left them with minimal earnings, Radkey has now taken matters into their own hands.
Their latest album, “Bedroom Sand,” is entirely self-released and was produced with the assistance of a sympathetic professor who allowed them to use the university’s cutting-edge facility after hours. The band’s approach to creating music has evolved, with their latest single “Ready To Burn” being crafted with live performances in mind. The song captures the essence of a nostalgic nerd reminiscing about growing up on the road, staying up late watching movies, playing video games, and writing about their passions. References to RPG Pillars of Eternity, the Pokémon anime, and a nod to alt-rockers Local H’s “Bound for the Floor” are cleverly incorporated into the lyrics.
Having garnered a reputation as an electrifying live act, Radkey has received praise from a diverse range of musicians, including Foo Fighters, Jack White, and Rise Against. They recently organized their fourth annual RadFest in Kansas City and have a series of Midwest tour dates scheduled for the summer, with performances in Lawrence, Chicago, Rock Island, and Manhattan, Kansas among others. Fans can anticipate additional shows in the near future.
The tracklist for “Bedroom Sand” includes “Victory,” “Falling Out of Grace,” “Ready To Burn,” “Welcome To the Backyard,” “Bedroom Sand,” “Strays,” “Return to the Sky,” and “The Heartless.” Each song reflects Radkey’s unique blend of punk and metal influences, showcasing their evolution as a band. With full control over their music and a growing fan base, Radkey continues to solidify their presence in the music scene with their innovative sound and energetic live performances.
