Band Members of Tomb Mold Set to Release First Math-Rock Album Titled Daydream Plus
The music scene in Toronto has been buzzing with the talents of the death metal band Tomb Mold, known for their innovative approach to the genre. One of their standout albums, The Enduring Spirit, captured the hearts of many in 2023. However, the members of Tomb Mold are not just limited to their band; they each have other creative avenues they explore. Guitarist Derrick Vella, for example, delves into dreamy, proggy, and spaced-out doom as one part of the duo Dream Unending. Additionally, two other members of Tomb Mold come together in a new project called Daydream Plus, where they create intricate instrumental math-rock.
Leading the charge in Daydream Plus is the aptly named Tomb Mold guitarist, Payson Power. Alongside bandmate Max Klebanoff on drums and bassist Kevin Sia, they formed the trio in 2020 and have already put out a couple of EPs. This summer, music enthusiasts can look forward to their debut full-length album, Second Last Day of Summer. The LP was recorded with Darren McGill, while Arthur Rizk handled the mixing and mastering. Notably, the album features guest appearances from highly esteemed musicians such as Steve Lamos of American Football, Ryo Kishimoto from Fox Capture Plan, and Joseph Shabason, a contributor to War On Drugs and Destroyer.
Commenting on the album, Payson Power expressed his desire for it to evoke the feeling of opening a can of soda on an above-average day. This sentiment shines through in their lead single “Speed Limit,” a vibrant and whimsical jazz-rock track. Fans can enjoy a sneak peek of the song below.

The album, Second Last Day of Summer, is set to release on 7/10 via Run For Cover. Additionally, Daydream Plus will be teaming up with Batlab Electronics to create a chiptune version of the LP titled Extended Forecast, exclusively available on a limited NES-compatible cartridge.
