Comedian Smiley Dave from Newbury to start Download Festival
Newbury’s well-known comedian, Smiley Dave, recently got an exciting opportunity to kick off the renowned rock festival, Download. With its massive crowd of 90,000 attendees, Download Festival approached Smiley Dave to bring his Podcast to the stage to start the five-day event. Smiley Dave is a familiar face in Newbury, known for various roles like switching on the Christmas lights, hosting events like N-Fest and the Newbury Tattoo Convention, and spinning tracks at Indie/Rock DJ nights and Newbury Sound radio shows.
Although Smiley Dave has graced the stage at Download Festival in Donington Park before, this will be the first time performing under his own name. He plans to capture the experience on his Youtube channel which boasts over 80K subscribers. “I absolutely love Download Festival,” says Dave. “It’s one of the friendliest festivals in the country, and I aim to kickstart the weekend with a memorable performance from the get-go.”
During the festival from Wednesday, June 10 to Sunday, June 14, Smiley Dave will take the stage at 12pm on Wednesday at the Ace of Spades Tavern at Download. He is gearing up to bring a brand-new Gameshow and will be accompanied by special guests As December Falls to set the tone for the weekend.
Smiley Dave’s Big Dream Podcast is a hit on Youtube and major podcast platforms. The Podcast follows a heartwarming underdog story of a comedian striving to sell out the O2 Arena within five years. Now midway through his journey, he is leaving no stone unturned, documenting his progress in real-time on his ‘Big Dream Podcast with Smiley Dave.’ His journey received a significant boost when YouTuber and prankster Niko Omilana collaborated with him in a video.
