Diveboy releases new single ‘Chosen Ones’ and announces album ‘In Orbit’
Cork indie-rock band Diveboy has recently dropped their latest single, ‘Chosen Ones,’ along with the exciting news of their upcoming album, ‘In Orbit,’ set to be released on October 2nd. This album serves as a significant reintroduction after undergoing a rebranding last year, transitioning from their previous identity as The Burma. The trio, consisting of Tony O’Donovan as the vocalist, Peter Piggott on lead guitar, and Cian Doherty on drums, have managed to maintain their distinctive sound that has led them to achieve two top 5 albums on the Irish charts, five Homegrown Top 20 singles, and a coveted slot at Glastonbury, following successful performances at various events like All Together Now, Other Voices, and Cork City Hall, where they supported Feeder.
The latest single, ‘Chosen Ones,’ follows a series of well-received tracks like ‘Suntrap,’ ‘Glory Days,’ ‘Solar Sister,’ and ‘Built-in Heartbreak,’ which garnered significant support from various Irish media outlets such as RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM, SPIN, and Hot Press. With a sound deeply rooted in nostalgia, Diveboy’s music evokes the sentiments of 90s pop and rock icons like Madonna, All Saints, and U2. Lead guitarist Piggott elaborates on their creative process for ‘Chosen Ones,’ highlighting their deliberate embrace of a 90s influence in the track. Drawing inspiration from the sounds of that era, the band aimed to capture the essence of nostalgia through their music, as reflected in the chorus line, “Holding up a photograph, ’99 summertime.” Interestingly, the lyrics of the song were inspired by a sketch from The Limmy Show, adding a unique touch to their creative process.
