The single was inspired by the animated film “Watership Down,” a favorite of Martin LeMar, the band’s vocalist. The track explores themes of exile and survival, taking the listener on a journey towards a safer place with strong melodies and a progressive feel.

In a tribute to the project’s beginnings, Lalu welcomes back vocalist Martin LeMar and drummer Simon Phillips. LeMar’s powerful performances and lyrical depth bridge the past and present, while Phillips, the original drummer for Lalu, brings his legendary talent to the album.

Collaborating once again with guitarist and bassist Joop Wolters, Vivien Lalu focused on creating organic, dynamic arrangements for the album. The duo aimed for a raw, honest sound with no overproduction to capture the essence of live performances.

“We wanted this record to feel alive. No drum samples, next to no EQ, just real performances captured in their natural state,” explained Vivien Lalu, highlighting the authenticity of the album’s sound.

Guitarist Joop Wolters echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the natural musical synergy between himself and Vivien Lalu. The album came together effortlessly, culminating in the addition of live drums by Simon Phillips, resulting in a cohesive and authentic sound reminiscent of a true band dynamic.

The album’s mixing was crafted to maintain a live, open sound, capturing the energy of each performance. Keyboard virtuoso Jens Johansson made a guest appearance on three tracks, adding explosive solos that pay homage to his influence on Vivien Lalu’s musical journey.

The title of the album, “A Mythmaker’s Demise,” reflects on the diminishing creativity in an age dominated by artificial intelligence. The artwork, created by Mattias NorĂ©n, depicts a writer at his desk as his creations struggle to break free into a world that no longer values them, mirroring the album’s deeper themes.

“A Mythmaker’s Demise” is more than just an album; it is a testament to the essence of progressive rock crafted over two decades. With a tracklist featuring a combination of instrumental and vocal tracks, the album showcases the collective talent of Vivien Lalu, Joop Wolters, Martin LeMar, and Simon Phillips.

As Lalu celebrates its 20th anniversary, “A Mythmaker’s Demise” stands as a tribute to the band’s artistic integrity, musical craftsmanship, and enduring legacy in the world of progressive rock.
