Huddersfield’s First Let’s Rock Festival to Feature Neon Colors and Nostalgia
Neon hues and a wave of nostalgia took over Huddersfield as it played host to its inaugural Let’s Rock festival, drawing fans from all corners of England for a day filled with retro music. The Let’s Rock Festival, a staple since 2009, has been making its rounds across the country, bringing together enthusiasts of 1980s tunes. This year marked a special milestone as the fest made its debut in Huddersfield at the Accu Stadium, the famed grounds of Huddersfield Town, attracting a throng of music lovers to revel in performances by the likes of Jason Donovan, Marc Almond, Tony Hadley, Matt Goss, Kim Wilde, and Sonia.
Local attendees like Alan and Emma were eagerly anticipating the festival, with Emma even donning a captivating 1980s-inspired ensemble to match the theme. The air was filled with vibrant neon shades as festival-goers adorned themselves in nostalgic band t-shirts, while some, like the spirited group from Manchester and Liverpool comprising Izzy, Carol, Sue, Lori, and Brenda, went the extra mile with themed outfits. Sue was particularly looking forward to catching Marc Almond’s set, with the group also expressing their excitement about performances by Nik Kershaw and Nick Heyward.
Not everyone felt inclined to dress up, however, as evidenced by Kelvin and Michael from Lepton, who arrived sporting more casual attire. Kelvin humorously expressed his ’80s upbringing, quipping, “I’m an ’80s kid, me.” The festival also drew in visitors from afar, including Richard and Catherine, who journeyed all the way from the picturesque Lake District. Richard eagerly anticipated the event’s “really decent lineup,” especially with the sun shining bright, enhancing the festival experience.
Among the diverse crowd were younger attendees, yet many were there to bask in the nostalgia of the ’80s era. Penny and James, for example, traveled from Holmfirth, eager to “relive” the vibes of the 1980s. However, it was Helen and Debs, local attendees from Huddersfield, who encapsulated the event’s essence best. Helen humorously relayed her anticipation of “getting drunk in the sun,” a sentiment that resonated with many revelers on the perfect summer day at the festival.
