Seo Hyun-jung Embarks on Solo Project “S Ø HJ” as Drummer for Butterfly and Gathering Star on Line 3
Drummer Seo Hyun-jung, known for her work with Line 3 Butterfly and Gathering Star, has recently embarked on a solo project under the name S Ø HJ. Her latest release, a single titled “Deep Blue Dive,” follows her first single “Another Lullaby,” which was released in April. The song delves into themes of excitement and fear associated with exploring new realms and discovering one’s true self. It embodies a sense of stepping out of one’s comfort zone and embracing the unknown.
S Ø HJ shared that the inspiration for “Deep Blue Dive” stemmed from the color blue and the concept of taking a leap of faith. She expressed that creating music independently allowed her to reconnect with her initial passion for music, likening the process to submerging oneself in the depths of the sea. Having been extensively involved in the writing, composing, arrangement, production, and sound design for Line 3 Butterfly, S Ø HJ drew from her love for various music genres like hard rock, heavy metal, psychedelic, and blues to craft this single.
These recent single releases serve as a prelude to S Ø HJ’s upcoming debut full-length album, titled [Ø: Between], set for release on June 21. Transitioning from a supporting role as a drummer to a forefront artist has provided S Ø HJ with a platform to infuse her personal emotions and storytelling into her music, offering a glimpse into a side of her artistry that was not prominently featured in the band’s sound.
In a similar vein, Japanese bands muque and Danny May are also making waves in the Korean music scene. Muque, a three-member band from Fukuoka, gained recognition in Korea with their performance at the Busan International Rock Festival, and their song “The 1” being featured as the 21st ending song of the popular anime “One Piece.” They are set to hold their first solo performance in Korea with the ‘muque LIVE TOUR 2026 ‘GLHF’ in Seoul’ on July 11.
On the other hand, Danny May, a dynamic three-vocal band blending rock, pop, R&B, and dance music, is scheduled to perform in Korea on August 21. Their track “Unfinished Marriage Theory” has garnered success on platforms like the Korean Spotify viral chart, solidifying their position as a formidable live band both in Korea and Japan.
