This year’s Sweden Rock Festival is making strides towards more sustainable food and drink offerings, thanks to a collaboration with Duni Group. The partnership focuses on implementing circular solutions for both serving and waste management, including compostable packaging, reusable glasses, and large-scale on-site composting.

With tens of thousands of visitors converging on the festival from June 3rd to 6th, the need for functional and sustainable solutions at a large scale is paramount. Through the alliance with Duni Group, the event is adopting strategies that reduce waste and resource consumption while still meeting the demands for efficient logistics and seamless serving, all without compromising on the quality of the food and beverage experience.

One of the key innovations at this year’s festival is the introduction of one of Duni Group’s largest composting machines, provided through their brand Solserv by Duniform. This machine will be installed in the festival’s staff dining areas to handle the significant volume of meals served each day, averaging over 3,000 meals and peaking at 7,000 during the busiest periods. By processing both food waste and used paper packaging, the composting machine can transform this material into valuable compost in just 24 hours, enabling a more sustainable waste management solution directly on site.

Nicklas Lauwell, Chief Officer Food Packaging Solutions at Duni Group, emphasizes the practical demonstration of circular solutions in challenging environments like festivals. By integrating compostable packaging, on-site waste management, and reusable alternatives, the festival is taking tangible steps towards waste reduction.

In addition to the composting initiatives, Duni Group’s brand Relevo by Duni is also supplying all festival partners with reusable Reuse glasses, contributing to reduced resource consumption and improved material flows across the event. Mats Lindgren, Food & Partner Manager at Live Nation, highlights the importance of integrating sustainability throughout the festival experience and praises Duni Group as a partner in achieving this goal effectively on a large scale.

Through its Food Packaging Solutions division, Duni Group showcases how major events can lessen their environmental footprint by incorporating reusable and compostable options within a cohesive system. This aligns with the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable and engaging food experiences in the future.

Since its inception, Sweden Rock Festival has become a global rock destination, attracting around 40,000 visitors annually to Norje, near Sölvesborg. With over 90 bands performing across multiple stages during the four-day event, ranging from iconic bands to emerging talents, the festival has earned a reputation as one of Sweden’s premier rock and hard rock festivals.

The introduction of on-site composting and other sustainable initiatives at this year’s Sweden Rock Festival signifies a meaningful step towards reducing environmental impact and fostering a more eco-friendly entertainment experience. This collaborative effort between Sweden Rock Festival and Duni Group sets a positive example for large-scale events seeking to prioritize sustainability and innovation in their operations.
