New York City’s iconic crossover band, CRO-MAGS, has recently released their first new music in a span of six years. Titled ‘Wired For Chaos’, the track shares its name with an acclaimed Harley Flanagan documentary from last year. Produced by Flanagan himself along with Arthur Rizk, known for his work with bands like Power Trip, Code Orange, and Cavalera Conspoiracy, the song serves as the band’s inaugural release for BLKIIBLK, a fresh metal label under Frontiers Music.
Frontman Flanagan expressed his thoughts on the new video for ‘Wired for Chaos,’ drawing parallels to the band’s classic track ‘We Gotta Know’ that dominated music scenes 40 years ago. He took pride in CRO-MAGS’ ability to connect with diverse audience groups, ranging from hardcore enthusiasts to metalheads, punks, and skinheads, as showcased in the video featuring fans from various tours. Flanagan noted that very few bands can claim such a blend of fanbase demographics, likening CRO-MAGS to Motörhead in this regard, and highlighted the group’s ongoing commitment to uniting fans across different genres.
He further elaborated on the song’s inspirations, emphasizing that its title was drawn directly from the documentary ‘Wired for Chaos.’ The track opens with an aggressive metal intro, setting a tone akin to a UFC fighter’s walk-in or a video game soundtrack. It then transitions seamlessly into a more traditional hardcore thrash style before culminating in a heavy beatdown characteristic of CRO-MAGS’ signature sound. Lyrically, ‘Wired for Chaos’ delves into the idea of being ingrained with chaos from birth, stemming not only from external factors but also from parental influences, traumatic experiences, and childhood events that have contributed to Flanagan’s personal struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The band is now gearing up to embark on a European tour, with numerous live performances scheduled across different cities. The tour will reach its crescendo with a show at Rebellion in August, featuring an array of dates throughout the summer.
