Two individuals were apprehended after crashing through a barricade at Camp Pendleton following a police chase, leading to a considerable six-hour pursuit across the Marine Corps base.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) revealed that the dramatic event unfolded when the two suspects, in an attempt to evade local law enforcement, forcibly made their way through a gate at the base. Subsequently, they discarded their vehicle in a residential military area and escaped on foot, as per the NCIS report. The breach prompted authorities to issue a temporary shelter-in-place directive as efforts were made to fortify the premises.
NCIS reported that a collaborative search operation, involving around 30 individuals, was initiated to track down the suspects. Over the course of six hours, a comprehensive search was conducted across the expansive base with the aid of real-time intelligence and monitoring support from the NCIS Multiple Threat Alert Center and Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Team. Eventually, both suspects were apprehended without any untoward incidents.
Upon further investigation, authorities uncovered a staggering quantity of approximately 51 kilograms, equating to more than 112 pounds, of cocaine and fentanyl stowed away in the suspects’ vehicle, according to NCIS. Expressing gratitude, NCIS acknowledged the efforts of various entities, including Orange County Sheriff’s Department, CA, Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration – DEA, US Border Patrol, and other assisting agencies, for their seamless teamwork and commitment to safeguarding military installations.
The identities of the suspects were not immediately disclosed, and details regarding potential charges have yet to be disclosed by officials.
