7 new artists have recently been revealed as part of the lineup for the upcoming 83rd National Folk Festival in Downtown Jackson, scheduled to take place from November 13-15. Mayor John Horhn expressed his excitement, mentioning that the event will witness a diverse array of American musical talents gracing the stage to share their art with the world. The festival is revered for its ability to bring forth the rich narratives, melodies, and essence of communities nationwide, and Jackson is proud to once again host this celebration, especially as the nation commemorates its semiquincentennial.

This year, the 83rd National Folk Festival will actively participate in “Of the People: The Smithsonian Festival of Festivals,” an initiative aimed at marking the U.S. Semiquincentennial by highlighting the vibrant cultural landscape of the country. Among the newly announced performers, audiences can look forward to experiencing the soulful sounds of Annie & the Caldwells from West Point, Mississippi, the lively Mardi Gras Indian music of Dat Mighty 9 feat. Big Chief Romeo from New Orleans, Louisiana, and the unmistakable gospel, soul, and rhythm and blues stylings of Mavis Staples hailing from Chicago, Illinois.

Furthermore, the Mississippi Alumni All-Star Band representing Jackson, Mississippi, the mesmerizing Iraqi oud music from the Rahim AlHaj Trio based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the authentic Cajun tunes from the Savoy Family Cajun Band situated in Eunice, Louisiana will grace the festival. Additionally, Tay Cheesy from Atlanta, Georgia, will entertain the audience with trail ride line dancing, adding another layer of excitement and diversity to the event.

The lineup promises a mesmerizing fusion of sounds and traditions that collectively showcase the best of American music.
