Local Milwaukee musician releases new folk-rock album influenced by years of collaboration with fellow artists.

Milwaukee vocalist and composer Kyle Feerick finds solace in his music, where all his problems seem to fade away as he closes his eyes and sings from the heart.

“Singing is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my life,” Feerick expressed to “Wisconsin Today.” “It brings me genuine happiness.”

Feerick’s latest folk rock project, “Shine On,” marks a return to the music scene almost ten years after his previous album, “Heart.” Fans may not fully grasp the extensive effort required to produce an album, according to Feerick.

“Numerous steps are involved, each demanding a considerable amount of time to bring all musicians together in the studio,” Feerick remarked. “It is imperative to meticulously oversee each phase to ensure satisfaction with the final outcome.”

In an interview with Kate Archer Kent, Feerick provides insight into his creative process and inspirations for the album.

Feerick revealed, “I composed the songs over the course of three to four years with the intention of exploring new territories and challenging myself. I delved into learning the piano to a proficient level to craft songs on this instrument instead of my customary guitar. This shift allowed me to produce music that would not have materialized if I had solely relied on the guitar.”

Kent noted the intricate layers of varied instruments within Feerick’s music, including violin, piano, saxophone, and horns. She inquired about how Feerick navigates the inclusion of these instruments during the songwriting process.

“When I am crafting a song, I can envision the additional instruments that I want to incorporate into the composition. Certain songs call for strings, horns, or the bright sound of a Wurlitzer piano,” Feerick explained. “The vision for the song guides us as we enter the studio, where I am fortunate to collaborate with talented musicians to bring that vision to life.”
