PSYCROPTIC Announce Release of The Pulse Of Annihilation
For more than twenty years, PSYCROPTIC has been a prominent figure in the world of technical death metal, standing out with their precision, structure, and dedicated creativity. Hailing from Tasmania, the band has made their mark on the global stage with their reputation for complex rhythms, impeccable musicianship, and an unwavering commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
On July 17th, PSYCROPTIC is set to embark on a new chapter with their upcoming full-length album, “The Pulse Of Annihilation,” to be released through Metal Blade Records. The collaboration signifies a significant synergy between one of the most technically proficient acts in extreme metal and a label deeply interconnected with the genre’s development.
At the heart of this new venture lies guitarist and primary songwriter Joe Haley. Over the years, Haley’s approach to composition has evolved from sheer technical prowess to a more intentional architectural style. In “The Pulse Of Annihilation,” the construction of riffs feels more precise, transitions smoother, and thematic elements more deliberate. Haley’s writing showcases a mature grasp of pacing, knowing exactly when to tighten the reins, when to let loose, and how to use silence and space to accentuate the relentless nature of their sound. Far from losing its intensity, it has only gotten sharper.
The album features a double vocal assault from Jason Peppiatt and Jason Keyser (from Origin), a tandem that initially emerged on PSYCROPTIC’s previous album, “Divine Council.” Peppiatt’s guttural growls intertwine with Keyser’s razor-sharp delivery, creating a dynamic vocal interplay that brings depth and contrast to the band’s intricate instrumentation. This multi-layered approach enhances the album’s impact, introducing confrontational elements that seamlessly mesh with the band’s complex musical foundation.
The lead single off the album, “Gathering A Venomous Herd,” serves as a strong statement of intent. Described by Haley as a relentless riff powerhouse, it is a track that doesn’t let up. Bassist Todd Stern adds that the song’s tempo allows for optimal headbanging, creating ample room for powerful vocal passages.
Produced once again by Joe Haley at his studio, The Pulse Of Annihilation encapsulates PSYCROPTIC’s commitment to sonic individuality. The production strikes a balance between clarity and weight, with Dave Haley’s drumming providing a precise foundation, the bass anchoring the harmonic progression, and the guitars cutting through the mix with controlled aggression. The production allows for the intricacies of the music to shine through while retaining its crushing impact.
Featuring cover art by Belial Necroarts, the album will be available in various formats and vinyl variants. With an impressive tracklist and a bold new sonic direction, “The Pulse Of Annihilation” promises to be a landmark release for PSYCROPTIC.
In addition to the album’s release, PSYCROPTIC will be embarking on a series of live shows, including dates in Australia and Japan, alongside label mates Rivers Of Nihil and The Zenith Passage. With more tour dates expected to be announced, fans can look forward to experiencing the new material in a live setting, showcasing the band’s technical prowess and creativity.
