The Rolling Stones unveil new tracks “Jealous Lover” and “Divine Intervention”

The Rolling Stones recently unveiled two new tracks, Jealous Lover and Divine Intervention, offering fans another taste of their upcoming album Foreign Tongues. These songs come on the heels of the previously released Rough And Twisted and In The Stars, giving fans more insight into what to expect from the album set to drop on 10 July via Polydor and Universal Music.

This new music release is part of a particularly busy recording phase for the iconic British rock band. Foreign Tongues marks their first studio album since 2023’s Hackney Diamonds and their twenty-fifth overall. Produced by Andrew Watt, the album continues the creative collaboration that began with Hackney Diamonds, combining the band’s longtime collaborators with special guest musicians.

Jealous Lover showcases a different side compared to In The Stars. While the former leans towards pop-rock, the new song delves into the rhythm and blues influences that have been a cornerstone of The Rolling Stones’ six-decade career.

Described by the band as a mix of “infectious melodies, rich musicianship, and sharp lyrical observations,” Jealous Lover tells a tale of a warning given by Mick Jagger to an overly inquisitive romantic partner, with witty lyrics and vivid imagery throughout.

Musically, the track features Jagger’s falsetto vocals alongside guitar work from Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. The rhythm section is held down by bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan, who took over following Charlie Watts’ passing in 2021. Additionally, Steve Winwood’s contributions on Rhodes piano and organ, along with producer Andrew Watt and longtime Stones keyboardist Matt Clifford, help shape the song’s intricate studio sound.

Jealous Lover will be available in various physical formats, including a 10-inch vinyl single, a 7-inch vinyl single, and a CD single, with Divine Intervention on the B-side. Divine Intervention itself is a classic rock and roll tune that complements the overall feel of the album.

Foreign Tongues has been generating buzz since its announcement in May, boasting a star-studded guest list including Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Chad Smith, and Steve Winwood. The album also holds historical significance as it features material from the final recording sessions with Charlie Watts, some of which date back to sessions in Los Angeles before his passing.

The road to Foreign Tongues began earlier this year with the release of Rough And Twisted under the pseudonym The Cockroaches, followed by In The Stars. The band’s continued productivity and commitment to releasing new material, rather than solely relying on their back catalog for tours, highlight their enduring legacy in the music industry.

With the album’s release imminent, Jealous Lover gives fans a taste of the musical diversity to expect from Foreign Tongues. As anticipation grows, the album promises to marry the band’s blues roots with a contemporary production approach, showcasing a blend of classic and modern sounds that define The Rolling Stones’ enduring appeal.
