Rage Against the Machine Icon Cancels Shows Due to Family Health Matter

Springsteen, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, and Foo Fighters are among the artists slated to join Morello in his upcoming Power To The People Festival which is slated for October 3 in Maryland. The festival is described as “A day of peace, love, justice, and music.”
Morello, the iconic guitarist from the band Rage Against the Machine, recently announced that he will not be able to perform at two upcoming shows due to his 102-year-old mother’s illness. Despite being on tour in the UK and Europe, Morello interrupted his schedule to return to the United States to be by his mother’s side during this difficult time.
This situation is not unfamiliar, as earlier this month Morello also had to halt his tour to attend to his mother’s health needs. The guitarist, who was welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 as a member of Rage Against the Machine, shared the news through his Instagram account on Thursday, June 25.
In his message, Morello expressed his gratitude and addressed his fans, stating, “Dear friends, fans, and comrades, my dear mom, Mary Morello, is back in the hospital, and I’m headed home to help look after her. Rocking the UK & Europe with you all this summer has been incredible, and I can’t wait to be back with and continue this movement that we started. With much love, unity, and power – Tom Morello.”
The announcement confirmed Morello’s absence from the upcoming Tons of Rock Festival in Norway and the BBK Music Legends Festival in Spain. Refunds are being offered to fans who had hoped to see Morello perform at these events. The Hellacopters will take his place in Norway, while that Beat, who was already part of the lineup, will extend their set at the BBK Festival in place of Morello.
Apart from his work with Rage Against the Machine, Morello has also been a member of Prophets of Rage and Audioslave. He currently hosts a show on SiriusXM’s Lithium channel and often features his mother as a guest.
Earlier this year, Morello toured with Bruce Springsteen, and now he is preparing for the upcoming Power To The People Festival on October 3 in Maryland, where he will join forces with other notable artists such as Serj Tankian from System of a Down and the Foo Fighters.
