Madeira to host Jazz Festival in Portugal

The 26th edition of the Funchal Jazz Festival is set to grace Madeira from the 6th to the 11th of July, showcasing performances by some exceptional artists such as vibraphonist Joel Ross, the Joe Lovano & Antonio Faraò project, and pianist Jason Moran. Split between two venues, the festival will kick off at the Funchal Municipal Garden from the 6th to the 8th of July, offering free admission to attendees. The subsequent days, from the 9th to the 11th of July, will see performances at Santa Catarina Park, with individual tickets priced at 15 euros and a three-day pass available for 40 euros.

At Santa Catarina Park, the renowned Portuguese musician Duarte Ventura will commence the musical journey, paving the way for the mesmerizing performance by American vibraphonist Joel Ross, as revealed by the lineup shared by the event’s artistic director, Paulo Barbosa, at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre. Following this, on the 10th of July, saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins and the Joe Lovano & Antonio Faraò project will captivate the audience with their musical prowess. The festival’s final night will be opened by the esteemed American singer Ledisi, culminating in an extraordinary performance by the American jazz pianist Jason Moran.

Alongside these spectacular paid performances, the festival has also arranged several free concerts at the Municipal Garden and will host professional proficiency exams for students from the Conservatory – School of the Arts of Madeira. The festival promises to be a musical extravaganza, celebrating the rich tapestry of jazz music while providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills and passion for this genre.
