Trooper Salute sets its own rhythm on impressive first album

Hayato Komiya, aged 24, always remained stoic during graduations. He would watch others around him cry as they said goodbye, but he thought he wouldn’t feel the same emotion as he moved on from those he cared about. However, everything changed when he entered college and became a member of a music club. In May 2023, Komiya had to part ways with his upperclassmen friends, and he felt an intense sadness that he had never experienced before. Reflecting on this moment, Komiya shared with The Japan Times during a video call, “I felt this overwhelming sadness. From around then, I started writing more about human relationships.”

This newfound focus on human connections became a driving force in Komiya’s creative endeavors. Together with his fellow musicians Sangen Ron, Junsei Iwai, Musashi, and Kion Umemura, they formed the quintet Trooper Salute hailing from Nagoya. On June 17, the group released their debut album titled “Tomogachi Ga Imashita,” showcasing their unique blend of musical styles and storytelling.
