The director of Fallout: New Vegas, Josh Sawyer, recently praised Amazon’s Fallout show for being one of the best video game adaptations he has seen on screen. In a video interview with The 41st Precinct, Sawyer shared his thoughts on the show, despite having a few critiques that he doesn’t consider genuine criticisms.

He commended the adaptation, mentioning that while he might have approached the plot or characters differently, it’s normal for writers to have personal preferences. Specifically, Sawyer pointed out that he wasn’t involved in creating Mr. House, a character in the Fallout universe, but he appreciated Justin Theroux’s portrayal of him in the show. He expressed his excitement to see where the story goes in future seasons.

Sawyer also addressed concerns from Fallout fans about the show’s accuracy compared to the video games and defended Amazon’s attention to detail. He confirmed that sets like the vault and Freeside closely resembled their in-game counterparts, although there were some layout differences. Despite complaints about a minor detail like the positioning of the Dinky the T-Rex statue in Novac, which was altered for a specific scene in Season 2, Sawyer understood the creative decision and wasn’t bothered by it.

Regarding the show’s future, Sawyer hinted at a potential shift in the storyline for Season 3, away from the narrative of Fallout: New Vegas. He mentioned that the setting in New Vegas was not the focal point of the adaptation but rather a backdrop for the show’s original plot. Season 2’s conclusion hinted at Colorado being the next location, offering new territory for the Fallout universe.

As Season 3 approaches, fans can anticipate an expansion of the Fallout canon with fresh storylines and unexplored locations. Bethesda chief Todd Howard confirmed that pre-production has begun, with filming scheduled to commence in Los Angeles. The casting announcements for Season 3 also include notable names like Manny Jacinto, Thomasin McKenzie, Emily Mortimer, and Aaron Paul, who is a longtime Fallout enthusiast.

In conclusion, Sawyer’s positive review of Amazon’s Fallout show and the upcoming developments in Season 3 are indicators of an exciting future for the series. With new locations, characters, and storylines, the show is set to continue expanding the Fallout universe and delivering a captivating adaptation of the beloved video game franchise.
