They were confronted with the choice of having metal rods surgically implanted in their son’s legs as he grew or opting for amputation. Ultimately, they chose amputation, a decision Richard believes was the correct one. Over time, Richard stumbled upon wheelchair basketball, a sport that propelled him to an elite level of play.
