Melbourne punk-rock band The Meanies are gearing up for a much-anticipated return to Western Australia this weekend, with shows at Indi Bar, Ice Cream Factory, and Mojos Bar on July 10, 11, and 12 respectively. Link Meanie, a member of the band, recently discussed the band’s new endeavors, including releasing a 25-year-old song and composing a special jingle for Perth.

When asked about his unexpected return to Australia after a decade, Link Meanie revealed that he had initially planned to settle in Spain permanently after getting married. However, circumstances led him back to his hometown, where he faced challenges like being away from loved ones and grappling with a new language.

Reflecting on his past penchant for on-stage injuries, Link Meanie admitted that he has toned down his risky behavior in recent years, opting for fewer stunts that could result in broken bones. Despite his efforts to avoid serious injuries, he still manages to endure minor issues like muscle strains and tendon injuries from time to time.

Joining forces with The Gnomes for the upcoming tour, The Meanies are excited to share their music with audiences in Western Australia. The Gnomes, described by Link Meanie as a solid rock ‘n’ roll band with good hygiene habits, are the perfect complement to The Meanies’ energetic performances.

Regarding their new single “Shutdown,” Link Meanie revealed that the song was actually recorded during a phase where the band experimented with different musical styles like country, disco, and funk. Despite its unconventional origins, Link Meanie expressed his fondness for the track and its unique sound.

In addition to “Shutdown,” The Meanies also released a catchy jingle dedicated to Perth, aptly titled “The Meanies Are Coming to Perth.” Link Meanie explained that the song was a way to show appreciation for the city and engage with local fans, sharing an anecdote about a memorable incident that occurred during a previous visit to WA.

When asked about his continued passion for songwriting, Link Meanie emphasized the importance of music as a form of self-expression and emotional release. Whether drawing inspiration from personal experiences or societal issues, Link Meanie remains committed to creating music that resonates with fans and reflects the band’s evolving perspectives.

Looking ahead, The Meanies have plans to release more singles leading up to a new album. Taking a relaxed approach to their creative process, the band aims to craft a cohesive collection of songs that showcase their signature sound and musical evolution.

As The Meanies prepare to take the stage once again in Western Australia, fans can expect a blend of classic hits and new tracks that capture the band’s enduring spirit and musical prowess. For ticket information and updates, visit the official website of The Meanies.
