Iron Maiden mania: Rock Imperium Festival elevates Cartagena in global rock music scene

The Rock Imperium Festival in Cartagena has recently wrapped up its fifth edition, bringing in over 50,000 rock fans from 40 different countries and contributing a whopping 15 million to the local economy. The festival, celebrating the essence of rock music, has put Cartagena back on the map as a prime destination for large-scale events not just in Murcia but across Spain as a whole.

The highlight of this year’s festival was undoubtedly the performance by British rock legends, Iron Maiden. Drawing a massive crowd of 20,000 attendees from around the world to Cuesta del Batel, Iron Maiden solidified Rock Imperium’s reputation as one of the premier summer events in the Region of Murcia. The band’s show marked one of the largest musical gatherings in Cartagena’s history, further establishing the festival’s status as a must-attend event for rock music enthusiasts.

Beyond the music, festival-goers were treated to the Rock Imperium Tapas Route, a culinary experience that showcased the best of Cartagena’s gastronomic offerings. Around 20 establishments in the historic center participated in offering affordable tapas and drinks to delight the attendees and add to the overall success of the event.

Looking towards next year, the organizers have already begun planning for the 2027 edition of the festival, scheduled for July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The lineup for the upcoming festival includes notable bands such as Helloween on their 40th-anniversary tour, Children of Bodom, Mayhem, Venom, and Swedish artist Erik Grönwall, with many of them making exclusive appearances in Spain.

With a record-breaking crowd, a significant boost to the local economy, and an expanding international presence, Rock Imperium Festival is establishing Cartagena as a prominent destination for major music events in Europe. The success of this year’s festival will surely pave the way for even greater achievements in the years to come.
