Ulver release latest music video for “Hollywood Babylon” from 2024 album
Ulver, a band known for their transition from black metal to synth-pop, has released a new music video for their track “Hollywood Babylon.” Taking a unique approach in revisiting a song from their 2024 album “Liminal Animals,” Ulver’s decision to create a new music video received an in-depth explanation on their social media platform. They shared that the video stars Sara Khorami and was initiated, curated, and created by Johnsen and Mona.
The band celebrated twenty years since they collaborated with AKFF to produce the animated music video “It is Not Sound,” a journey through the Sea of Sorrows to the Pinnacle of Truth. Reflecting on this experience, Ulver questioned why they had not created more videos with AKFF. This led to the conception of their latest music video for “Hollywood Babylon.”
The video is set in a futuristic world with neon lights, drawing inspiration from classic films like “Nosferatu,” “Metropolis,” and “Tron.” It satirizes today’s society, highlighting the obsession with appearances and the superficial nature of image. The main character, a woman struggling to hold onto her beauty, enters an arcade machine called the “Better Face Remodeller” in a quest for a new face. However, the machine’s outcome surprises her, producing a twisted doppelgänger that embodies her insecurities and threatens to take over her life.
Ulver’s collaboration with Christian (Mona) from their past endeavors has resulted in a visually stunning music video for “Hollywood Babylon.” The band describes the video as a distorted mirror of contemporary times, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its intricacies.
Earlier this year, Ulver released a remix of “Hollywood Babylon” by Gazelle Twin in March. The band’s willingness to revisit past tracks showcases their artistic evolution and commitment to exploring new creative avenues. With the release of this new music video, Ulver continues to captivate audiences with their unique vision and storytelling through music.
