Colour of Fire reveals upcoming album release and York concert in June
The announcement of a new album and upcoming gig in York in June has brought excitement to fans of the alternative rock band Colour of Fire. This York-based band is well-known for their energetic live performances and diverse musical style.
Founded in the early 2000s by co-songwriters Owen Richards and Stuart Jones, along with Thom Craigen and Matt Lunn, Colour of Fire quickly caught the attention of music lovers, especially after their debut single “Decisions, Decisions” received airtime on BBC Radio One. This exposure led to a record deal with Riverman Records, where they went on to record sessions at Maida Vale for Mary Anne Hobbs’ Radio One Rock Show and were named Zane Lowe’s Single of the Week on XFM.
Their second single, “Cut It,” gained traction on MTV2, paving the way for the band to embark on extensive tours across the UK, Europe, and Japan. They shared stages with notable acts such as Placebo, The Libertines, Biffy Clyro, and Sonic Youth, among others, solidifying their presence in the music scene.
In 2003, Colour of Fire recorded their debut album “Pearl Necklace” with producer Steve Osborne, which was released the following year to critical acclaim. Their success continued as they toured Europe with Placebo, performing at iconic venues like Brixton Academy in London.
Despite disbanding in 2005 to pursue individual projects, the band reunited in 2023 after Owen and Stuart rediscovered their shared passion for music. A year of songwriting and development led to a series of live shows, culminating in the completion of their long-awaited second album, “All The Wolves I Have Known,” set for release in 2025.
To celebrate their return, Colour of Fire will perform a special hometown show at The Crescent Community Venue in York on June 7, 2025. Guitarist and singer Owen expressed his excitement for the upcoming gig and album, highlighting the band’s evolution in sound while maintaining their signature intensity.
Reflecting on their deep connection to York, Owen emphasized the importance of the city in shaping their musical journey. He described the upcoming show as a significant moment for the band to share their new creations with a supportive audience, showcasing a blend of heavy and experimental elements in their latest record.
