Andy Kim to Perform at Hoochenanny Festival in Rochester
Andy Kim, a renowned singer and songwriter and 2019 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, has been added to the lineup of the Hoochenanny Whiskey and Music Festival in Rochester, New York. Kim will be joining Tommy Brunett’s All-Star Cavalcade of Scoundrels for this year’s festival, which promises to be a spectacular event spanning 14 acres and featuring two outdoor music stages and seven custom-built experience tents. The lineup includes national acts such as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Charles Wesley Godwin, Old 97’s, The English Beat, Dark Star Orchestra, and moe.
Kim’s journey into the music industry began with a memorable trip from Montreal to New York City with only forty dollars in his pocket. He took a bold step by approaching Jeff Barry at the Brill Building, resulting in Barry signing Kim to his Steed Records label. Their collaboration led to Kim’s first hit song, “How’d We Ever Get This Way,” which peaked at #21 on the Billboard charts in 1968. However, it was his work on the #1 song “Sugar, Sugar” in 1969 that truly catapulted him to success.
Kim’s career is marked by his determination and passion for music. When faced with obstacles, such as the challenge of producing his song “Rock Me Gently” in 1974, he founded his own record company, !CE, and achieved another #1 hit on the Billboard charts. With his distinctive baritone voice, Kim has often been compared to Neil Diamond and is recognized as one of the top composers of feel-good songs from the early 70s.
In addition to his musical achievements, Andy Kim has received numerous accolades, including the Order of Canada, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Billboard’s Hit Parade Hall of Fame. His work has left an indelible mark on the music industry, with nine Top 40 hits and over 30 million records sold.
For the upcoming Hoochenanny Festival in Rochester, Andy Kim will be performing alongside Tommy Brunett’s All-Star Cavalcade of Scoundrels on Saturday, August 9th. Brunett, a Rochester icon and former touring guitarist for Modern English, brings his own unique flair to the stage.
