Black Sabbath’s upcoming final chapter closing on July 5 has sparked increased excitement within the band’s fan base. As the band members prepare to bid farewell, they are also reflecting on their journey, particularly on the making of their album 13 and the possibility of another album in the future.

In a recent interview with Classic Rock, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward shared their thoughts on the creation of 13 and the influence of producer Rick Rubin. Iommi admitted to revisiting the early demo sessions for 13 at his home studio with producer Mike Exeter before Rubin’s involvement. He expressed satisfaction with the raw energy in those recordings, which he felt was somewhat lost during the formal production process with Rubin in Los Angeles.

Butler, the band’s bassist and lyricist, also had reservations about the album’s production. While acknowledging the presence of good songs like ‘God Is Dead?’, ‘Zeitgeist’, ‘Damaged Soul’, and ‘Dear Father’, he expressed his discomfort with the rushed writing process of the lyrics forced upon him by Rubin. Butler admitted that he would reconsider some lyrics given the chance and expressed disappointment at drummer Bill Ward’s absence, emphasizing that his presence would have enhanced the album.

While Iommi has not dismissed the idea of releasing the original demo material, Butler and Ward have differing opinions on the prospect of another studio album. Iommi expressed caution about committing to the extensive writing process that a new album would require, reflecting on the challenges they faced with 13. On the other hand, Ward, enthusiastic about the idea, expressed a desire to record another album with the band.

Looking toward the future, the band members remain unsure about the prospect of another studio album. Iommi is open to the idea but hesitant about the time commitment, while Butler is less enthusiastic but open to the possibility if approached. Despite their varying opinions, it is evident that the door for a future Black Sabbath album has not been entirely closed.

As fans eagerly await the band’s next move, whether through unreleased demos or a reunion album, the legacy and spirit of Black Sabbath continue to captivate audiences. The band’s influence and impact on the metal genre are undeniable, leaving a lasting mark on the music industry. As the final chapter of Black Sabbath approaches, fans will watch closely to see what the future holds for this iconic band.
