ow it’s difficult to pick a favorite, but which ’80s drummers inspired the sound on this album?Well there are a few. Phil Collins would be a big one, ’cause I love his drum tones and being another lead-singing drummer I absorbed a lot of his music, and some of his iconic fills just scream ’80s. Although John Bonham died in 1980, I think he had such an influence on using big toms, deep snares, and had such a presence in the drum world. Also Sheila E. Her work with Prince is so iconic, and I admire her so much.

Since the album title is car-themed, what’s your dream car? Classic and/or modern.A black 1966 Mustang coupe or the 1970 hot pink Barracuda from the album. The Barracuda is rented from a guy in LA and it was silver, but he let me do my own paint job on it, so now he has a pink car.

G Flip’s relocation to Los Angeles resulted in a unique production environment for their album Dream Ride, giving it a distinct ‘80s sound. Transitioning from a drummer to a pop star, G Flip’s music channels iconic artists like Pat Benatar and Belinda Carlisle, even mastering the saxophone for live performances.

Approaching the release of the album, G Flip shared insights into the new project, highlighting personal growth reflected in their matured songwriting and production skills. The creation of Dream Ride involved an intense three and a half month period solely dedicated to writing, recording, and producing the tracks, allowing for a focused and creative experience.

Influenced by legendary ‘80s drummers, G Flip drew inspiration for the album’s sound from the likes of Phil Collins and John Bonham, admiring their drum tones and iconic fills. Sheila E. also served as a source of inspiration due to her work with Prince and her iconic presence in the music industry.

Reflecting the car-themed album title, G Flip shared their dream car choices, opting for a classic black 1966 Mustang coupe or the hot pink Barracuda featured on the album cover.
