Earlier this year, Detroit’s own grind unit known as Shock Narcotic, made up of members from bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, Child Bite, and Battlecross, made a surprise and thrilling debut with their sophomore album, ‘My Flesh Is Afraid But I Am Not,’ and released it via Housecore Records. The band, known for their unique sound and intensity, celebrated this release with a brand new music video for their track, ‘Oblivion Licker.’ This album marks their latest full-length project following their 2019 record ‘I Have Seen The Future And It Doesn’t Work.’ To close the gap between music and fans, Shock Narcotic will host a special LP release show on July 24th in their hometown of Detroit.

Jeff Tuttle, formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan, described the album ‘My Flesh Is Afraid But I Am Not’ as a representation of conflicting emotions, mixing perfectionism with self-doubt and insecurities. Among feelings of confidence versus anxiety, pride, and self-deprecation, the album showcases a labor of love and compulsion that was transformed into an extraordinary record. Don Slater, who was a part of the band Battlecross, acknowledged the uniqueness of the album’s songs while still appreciating the recognizable chaotic nature of Shock Narcotic’s music. With a hint of admiration and pride, Slater felt honored to contribute his skills to the band’s amalgamated insanity.

Adam Jarvis of Pig Destroyer elaborated on his experience with the album, noting how it stood out to him from the very beginning and brought a fresh perspective to his drum playing. Diverse, intense, and a journey filled with madness, this album pushed him out of his comfort zone and allowed for an exhilarating recording process. Shawn Knight of Child Bite shared the sentiment behind their track ‘Oblivion Licker,’ describing it as an emotional journey of grappling with life’s challenges and finding the strength to overcome. A song that delves into bleakness and self-deprecation, it ultimately serves as a reminder of the control one has over their reactions to life’s hurdles.

As excitement grows for the release of ‘My Flesh Is Afraid But I Am Not,’ fans can look forward to the potent tracklist that includes songs like ‘To Kill For Nothing,’ ‘Wound Absentia,’ ‘We Are The Enemy,’ ‘Standard Issue Apathy,’ and much more. Additionally, the band has lined up a set of tour dates that kick off with the Detroit release show on July 24th before joining Pantera and Amon Amarth on select dates as part of The Heaviest Tour Of The Summer. Make sure not to miss this unforgettable musical experience that promises chaos, intensity, and raw emotions woven into powerful melodies.
