Lead guitarist Bernie Leadon from the Eagles set to release first album in two decades
With Bernie Leadon, one of the founding members of the Eagles, set to release his first solo album in more than 20 years, the music industry is buzzing with anticipation. Leadon, now 78 years old, is making a grand comeback with his album titled “Too Late to Be Cool,” as reported by Parade.
Following his 2013-2015 reunion with the Eagles, where he performed in an impressive 175 shows worldwide as part of the History of the Eagles Live in Concert tour, Leadon found his creative spark reignited. This resurgence led him to create a dedicated studio space and collaborate with renowned record producer Glyn Johns to bring his new album to life, finally completing the project this year.
Reflecting on the process, Leadon expressed his commitment to songwriting and his journey towards reigniting his creative passion, stating that for him, the new album is a natural progression after getting back into the swing of things post-Eagles reunion.
Already paving the way for what’s to come, Leadon has released two singles from the upcoming album: “Too Many Memories” and “Just a Little.” Fans can look forward to the full album release scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10.
Well-versed in the music industry, Leadon released his last solo effort, “Mirror,” in 2004, following his 1977 album “Natural Progressions” with The Bernie Leadon-Michael Georgiades Band. Playfully addressing the long intervals between his projects, he jokingly remarked that he is slowly working his way towards a shorter gap between releases, promising to deliver more music before another 22 years pass.
The anticipation surrounding Leadon’s return resonates across the music realm, with many curious to see what his creative process will manifest after two decades. Speculation arises on whether Leadon will be remembered for his musical legacy or infamous actions such as dumping a beer over Glenn Frey’s head as a farewell gesture to The Eagles, as mentioned by Marc Bona, a features writer for cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
Fans will have the opportunity to witness Leadon’s musical prowess at Nashville’s City Winery during AmericanaFest on Friday, Sept. 12, with further tour dates slated for spring 2026, as revealed by Parade.
Leadon’s illustrious career traces back to his co-founding of the Grammy Award-winning Eagles in 1971 alongside Don Henley, Randy Meisner, and Glenn Frey. Prior to his solo endeavors, Leadon showcased his talents with groups like the Flying Burrito Brothers and Dillard & Clark.
As the music world eagerly awaits the release of “Too Late to Be Cool” and Bernie Leadon’s grand return, the excitement continues to build, showcasing that age is just a number when it comes to passion and creativity in the world of music.
