The ensemble cast includes Carmen Mikiver, Nikolai Bentsler, Ago Anderson, Aarne Soro, Jaune Kimmel, Jane Napp, Simo Andre Kadastu, Kaarel Pogga, Mauri Liiv, Priit Pius, Riho Kütsar, Rain Tolk, Karin Rask, and Ott Aardam.

Jaak Kilmi, known for his previous works like “The Dissidents,” “Disco and Atomic War,” and “The Shadow,” described the filming of “Dirt in Your Face” as a true rock and roll experience, taking them back to the 1980s. The screenplay, penned by Martin Algus, is faithful to Raud’s novel but also adds a playful touch of fantasy, approved by Raud himself, who even participated in the final days of shooting. Filming commenced in mid-July, completing recently. Cinematographer Elen Lotman compared the shoot to a time machine, transporting the crew to Estonia’s dusty gravel roads and Latvian culture houses, preserving the spirit and essence of that era.

The production crew, comprising of production designers Katrin Sipelgas and Kristaps Kalsers, costume designer Anu Lensment, and make-up artist Gristina Pahmann, put in meticulous efforts during the making of the film. “Dirt in Your Face” is a joint venture between Estonia and Latvia, with Kristian Taska, Tanel Tatter, Veiko Esken, Janis Kalejs, Rain Rannu, and Tõnu Hiielaid leading the production. The project received support from various film institutes and funds in both countries and is slated for release on October 16, 2026, through distributor HeaFilm in the Baltic region.

The film promises to be a nostalgic yet defiant journey back in time, capturing the essence of the 1980s against the backdrop of a changing political climate. With a talented cast and crew dedicated to bringing Mihkel Raud’s story to life, “Dirt in Your Face” is set to be a unique and captivating cinematic experience.
