A suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at a university in Utah is now in custody, according to US President Donald Trump. The snipe shooting incident occurred during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, where Kirk was making an appearance.

President Trump revealed in an interview with Fox News that the suspect had been identified and turned in by someone who knew them. He expressed confidence that the gunman was now in custody, thanks to the efforts of a minister associated with law enforcement who recognized the shooter. The suspect’s father also played a role in convincing the individual to surrender to the authorities.

Speaking about the perpetrator, President Trump stated, “I hope he gets the death penalty.” The president did not hold back in expressing his disdain for left-wing radicals, labeling them as “vicious and horrible” in response to questions about how America can heal and come together after Kirk’s tragic murder.

Following the shooting, the FBI and state officials released images of a person of interest in the case, believed to be the shooter. The suspect, wearing distinctive clothing and accessories, was captured on security cameras before the shooting took place. Authorities identified the suspect as the person behind the attack on Kirk.

Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Trump and influential figure within the Republican Party, was participating in a debate titled “Prove Me Wrong” at the university when he was shot. The attacker arrived just prior to the event, gaining access to a roof from which they fired the fatal shot.

After the shooting, audience members fled in panic as Kirk was struck in the neck. The gunman fled the scene by jumping off the roof and disappearing into a nearby neighborhood. Law enforcement discovered a high-powered rifle in a wooded area close to the university, along with potential evidence such as palm prints and footprints.

The tragic incident prompted the cancellation of classes at the university, as investigators combed through the campus and adjacent wooded areas searching for clues. The shooter, believed to be of college age, was described as blending in well on the campus, making identification and apprehension a challenging task.

Charlie Kirk, co-founder and president of the conservative student group Turning Point USA, was known for his advocacy on various right-wing policies. His untimely death sparked outrage and condemnation of political violence from all sides of the political spectrum.

President Trump pledged to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing his contributions to conservative causes and his impact on younger voters. Kirk’s legacy as a charismatic advocate for right-wing ideologies, coupled with his confrontational approach to engaging with opponents, left a significant void in the conservative movement.
