A suspect believed to be responsible for the vandalism spree in the Medical Center has been apprehended, bringing relief to local businesses. Reports from KSAT revealed that the individual who had been shattering windows in various establishments within the Medical Center area was also the same person who had thrown a rock through a window at UT Health San Antonio’s campus. The incident caused panic and led authorities to issue alerts of a potential active shooter, which thankfully turned out to be a false alarm.

Law enforcement officials, clarifying the situation, affirmed that there was no active shooter threat. UT Health police took action and arrested German Hernandez Estrada, a 42-year-old man connected to the vandalism incidents. He was taken into custody and booked at the Bexar County jail on a charge of criminal mischief, with his bond amount set at $25,000.

Renee Correa, the owner of Bexar Care Home Medical Equipment & Supply on John Smith Drive, expressed gratitude towards KSAT’s coverage, which he believes played a crucial role in Estrada’s apprehension. Correa, who provided surveillance footage of his business’s vandalized windows to KSAT, recounted receiving a text message around 4:30 am confirming the arrest of the suspect. Relieved by the news, Correa emphasized the positive impact of Estrada’s arrest on the community. He expressed hopes that Estrada receives the necessary help and rehabilitation. The business owner also acknowledged the fear and chaos caused by the vandalism spree, particularly at the UT Health campus, where the incident was initially misconstrued as a potential active shooter situation.

Following months of enduring property damage and financial losses due to the window smashings, Correa reflected on the importance of swift action and investigative reporting in ensuring community safety. He praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement, eyewitnesses, and media outlets like KSAT in bringing closure to the vandalism incidents and restoring peace of mind to affected businesses and residents in the Medical Center area.

In a parallel development, Bexar County witnessed the sentencing of a teenager involved in planning a mass attack at Rhodes Middle School, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of timely intervention and preventive measures in maintaining the safety and security of local communities. Additionally, recent arrests related to mail theft and bank robbery underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing criminal activities and safeguarding public welfare.

As the community continues to recover from the unsettling events of recent months, the resolution of these incidents stands as a testament to the resilience and collective efforts of residents, business owners, and law enforcement authorities in upholding peace and security in the region.
