Justin Vernon is showcasing his creativity in the latest video for Bon Iver’s track “Day One,” where he pretends to retire and holds open auditions for his replacement in a school gymnasium. Directed by Jos Diaz Contreras, the video features appearances from actors Cristin Milioti and Jacob Elordi, along with St. Vincent, Vernon himself, a child adorned with a fake beard, and the song’s guest vocalists, Dijon and Jenn Wasner.

“Day One” can be found on Bon Iver’s most recent album, “SABLE, fABLE,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock/Alternative and Americana/Folk charts. Despite the album’s success, Vernon has no immediate plans to tour in support of it. However, he did mention at a private event that he intends to return to the stage at some point in the future.

Vernon expressed his thoughts on decision-making, stating, “Taking the license to decide that something’s not for you is another one of those things. It may be painful and strange to not do the thing that’s expected of you or that other successful people do, but I do think that’s a little bit of that Midwest ethic.” He reflected on his humble beginnings and how his career trajectory differed from his initial expectations.

For now, fans can look forward to hearing Vernon on Brandi Carlile’s upcoming album, “Returning to Myself,” set to release on October 24th. While Vernon may not be touring at the moment, his musical contributions continue to captivate audiences.

This showcase of creativity and Vernon’s philosophical reflections offer fans a deeper insight into the artist’s mindset and future plans. The video for “Day One” serves as a unique and imaginative portrayal of Vernon’s evolving artistic journey and showcases his willingness to embrace change and new experiences in his career.
